1987: The Harmonic Convergence

The Harmonic Convergence was a global spiritual event that took place on August 16 and 17, 1987. Organized by author José Argüelles, it coincided with an exceptional alignment of planets in the Solar System. Believers gathered at sacred sites worldwide, meditating and performing various spiritual rituals to usher in a new era of peace and unity on Earth.

The movement emphasized the significance of collective intention and the power of meditation to effect positive change in the world. Inspired by Mayan cosmology, Argüelles believed that the event marked a critical juncture in human history, calling for the formation of a "circumpolar rainbow bridge" of people worldwide to awaken humanity and restore balance to the planet.

Though it's difficult to quantify the impact of the Harmonic Convergence, the event contributed to the growth of New Age spiritual movements and the popularization of concepts like global consciousness and synchronized meditation. Today, mass meditation events continue to draw thousands of participants, and organizations such as the Global Consciousness Project continue to explore the potential effects of collective meditation on the world.
